How to Price Your Handmade Signs for Maximum Profit

Alright, let’s talk pricing.

If you’re charging $15 for a handmade sign that took you 2 hours to make, girl… we need to have a chat. You deserve to be paid for your time, your creativity, and your skill!

But how do you figure out what to charge? I’ve got you covered.

1. Start with Your Costs

Before you can price anything, you need to know how much it actually costs you to make it. That includes:
✔ Wood & materials
✔ Paint & stencils
✔ Sandpaper, brushes, & tools

Pro tip: If you’re not using reusable stencils yet, you’re spending way more on materials than you need to.

2. Factor in Your Time

Your time is valuable. You should be making at least 2-3x your materials cost to account for your labor, time, and business expenses.

A good rule of thumb:
✔ If your costs are $10, you should charge at least $30-$40
✔ If your costs are $15, charge $45+

Customers will pay more for handmade, unique pieces. You just have to price with confidence!

3. Don’t Forget Your Profit!

If you’re selling at craft fairs, boutiques, or online, you need to make sure you have profit built into your pricing—because discounts, booth fees, and shipping can add up FAST.

That’s why I love batch-making signs. Instead of painting one sign at a time, I make 5-10 at once using reusable stencils. It saves time, lowers costs, and increases profit.
